Get Up Out of a Chair, Effortlessly
Really, eight weeks of lessons to get out of a chair? Yes, most people can get up out of a chair, but can they do it with a sense of weightlessness? We have the potential to get up easily and with little tension or pain. But, instead we often force ourselves up. Usually we'll brace ourselves and sort of lunge out of the chair. Sometimes we'll hold our breath or tense our neck. Often we'll do some extra pushing through the feet and contract the fronts AND back of the legs at the same time. Along with this we might have neck, shoulder, or back pain. Go ahead and try it! Stand up and feel how you do it.

Getting Up and Down Off the Floor
There are many ways to get up and down off of the floor. We will work on the easy ways in the class series. The easiest ways may feel unusual to you and probably will not come automatically, but through various Feldenkrais lessons you'll find you can get up more comfortably.
Much like in the chair series above you will reduce your postural discomfort in order to get up from the floor easier, and you will get up from the floor easier by reducing your postural discomfort. One leads to the other.
